A wide range of special services and health promotion screening is available from within the Primary Care Team.
ACCESS TO THE NURSE PRACTITIONER FOR TELEPHONE ADVICE
When a patient telephones to speak with the Nurse Practitioner the Receptionist will clarify who is calling and transfer the call through to the Nurse Practitioner. If the Nurse Practitioner is unavailable the patient’s details will be taken by the Receptionist in order for the Nurse Practitioner to return the call.
HEALTH CHECKS
Three-year reviews are available on request for all patients. Annual reviews are available for all patients over 75 years,on request
MATERNITY CARE
Antenatal booking and postnatal clinics are held each Tuesday from 2.30pm the midwife is always in attendance. Please take this opportunity to become acquainted with her.
CHILD HEALTH
Infant development assessments are undertaken from 2.30pm each Tuesday afternoon. The health visitor is also available for advice.
FAMILY PLANNING
Is available by appointment with any of the doctors during normal surgery.
CERVICAL SMEARS
The doctors strongly advise that all women between 20 and 64 years have this test at least every five years. New guidance recommends that women aged under 50 should have the test every three years, the Practice is working towards these recommendations. Please respond promptly to any reminder or recall letter you receive, appointments can be made with the nurse practitioner or any of the doctors.
MINOR SURGERY
Examples of minor surgery are: Joint Injections, Excision of ingrowing toenails, Excision of lesions, Aspirations of cysts. Please make an appointment with the GP to discuss. Not all cases are suitable to carried out in Primary Care.
MINOR INJURIES
Will be dealt with during surgery hours.
ANTI-COAGULATION MONITORING
Patients on Warfarin will be monitored on a regular basis.
INFLUENZA & PNEUMOCCAL VACCINATIONS CLINICS
These clinics will be held annually.
NEAR PATIENT TESTING
Patients on specialised medication will be monitored close to their home, at the surgery. This avoids having to travel to outpatient clinics for blood tests.
BREAST SCREENING.
Breast cancer is the commonest female cancer. All women between the ages of 50 and 65 years of age should attend the mobile screening unit for mammography. If you have a family history of breast cancer please contact the doctor as you may need early or more regular screening.
MEDICAL EXAMINATION AND REPORTS
Are not always covered by the NHS; please speak to the receptionist when you are arranging your appointment. She will tell you of the costs involved.
